After failing to apologise within 24 hours as ordered by Kalenjin elders and Oscar Sudi, Central Organization of Trade Unions of Kenya (COTU) Secretary General, Francis Atwoli has been ‘cursed’ by the Kalenjin elders.
The elaborate ritual was performed at Kiptororo Shrine on the edge of the Mau Forest on Monday, April 15 with the elders accusing the Central Organization of Trade Unions of Kenya (COTU) Secretary General, Francis Atwoli of threatening and standing on the way of Deputy President. Atwoli got into trouble with the elders and Kalenjin leaders after he assured the country last weekend that William Ruto will not be on the ballot in 2022. On Saturday, Atwoli stated that Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho will be in the next government while DP Ruto will not.
“I assure you that after the next elections, Governor Ali Hassan Joho will be part of the next government. In 2022 we shall elect the president in an election that will be very peaceful since we shall have amended the Constitution,” said Atwoli, who was addressing the public at a fundraiser in Lamu.
He added: “The name of William Samoei Ruto will not be there (on the ballot)… You can take it to the bank,” said Atwoli.
He made the claims on April 13, 2019 while addressing the public at a fundraiser in Lamu.
While the Deputy President stayed away during the Kalenjin Elders event, the ceremony affirms the significance of shrines in Kalenjin community, which have been the subject of study by historians for many decades.
Myoot (Tugen, Keiyo, Marakwet, Kipsigis, Nandi, Sebei, Pokot, Terik) Council of Elders Chairman Bishop Paul Leleito says unlike other communities, the Kalenjin did not hold prayers under tree or hills as they worshiped Asis (sun).
The elders then demanded that he withdraws the comments and apologise for insulting the community with an intent to cause blood shed.
During the curse, the 100 Kalenjin elders killed a he-goat of one colour, a black one for this matter and roasted its meat. They then muttered evil words against Atwoli cursing his job and his generation and then pierced the meat with thorns to signify the bad omen which will befall the COTU boss and the pain thereof.
But whether these curses do work or not is another matter. Not long ago, the Kikuyu Council of Elders called a presser to curse SK Macharia’s Royal Media Services for supporting NASA flag-bearer Raila Odinga. Despite the alleged curse, aimed at jinxing Royal Media, Macharia’s TV and radio stations are still minting money. After the curse Royal Media has grown tenfold.
Francis Atwoli is an imbecile with nothing between his ears …he is a disgrace to his fellow 85-year old age mates.

Not long ago, after the brutal murder of popular businessman Jacob Juma, elaborate rituals were carried out by Luhya elders to curse his killers. A lit flashlight was put in his coffin, with the elders warning that the moment it goes off, Juma’s killers would have collapsed and died mysteriously or gone mad.
The torch is likely to have run out of battery power by now, but no one, to the best of our knowledge, has gone crazy or died in connection to the murder. Do you know any?
